From the scene where she breaks out of jail
The inspiration came by way of that great scene from Suicide Squad 2. Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie made an elaborate escape in an instantly iconic red ruffled dress. Have a look into our take on this inspiring piece.
The journey to get to this point involved the use of CLO3D, Blender, Character creator, Adobe Substance, and Photoshop. The dress is a combination of Silk chiffon, satin, and sequin, which we pulled from the Substance library. Playing with the UV and texture maps helped give the distress on the edges of the ruffle layers.
Importing silk chiffon, satin, and sequin, gave the fabrics the right texture, while the polygon mesh exported from CLO3D gave the fabrics the right physics. The construction also follows as much as we could see with a chiffon overlay bodice, torn arm bands, layers of ruffles, and sequin embellishment which shows through faintly under the layered fabrics.
The model avatar was created in Character Creator as well as the hair and skin texture maps. We found inspiration online for classic Harley with her pink and blue pig tails vs the red and black ones true to the film. So in keeping, she carries her bat, vs the spear as seen in the movie.
