Welcome to Tailorex! This has been a lifetime in the making. As a serial entrepreneur, I have been starting businesses since I was in high school. First, launching a bridal gown company that made bespoke wedding dresses. Then rolled out a bridal line featuring "bridal separates" at NYC Bridal Week. Meanwhile I honed my skills in production manufacturing as a Technical Designer, and pattern maker at brands such as Guess, Lucky Brand, and Dutch LLC. I was traveling around the globe, in search of factories, textile suppliers, and partners in the field. It was all leading to one big revelation, which was the enormous waste and exploitation the retail industry was amassing.
I remember one distinct image while flying out of Shanghai, watching the shoreline disappear and observing dark water pouring into the East China Sea. The water was black with pollution that I knew I was contributing to. Knowing the blood, sweat, tears, and resources connected with mass manufactured garments and the large percentage of waste that results, I knew I had to pivot.
I began to digitize my workflow, studying major 3D pattern software platforms, perfecting their ins and outs and seeing the capabilities and limitations. This led me to take initiative on myself to partner closely with my designers, offering them digital models of their developments with a promise to reduce physical fit iterations in the process. There was always hesitation at first and a bit of push back, but once we saw 50% savings of time, resources, and cost on the 1st season, there was no going back.
My greatest accomplishment came this year as I was able to turn an entire line assortment with new silhouettes, to its highest adoption rate since covid, and then get those samples fit approved on the first round, approving straight to Bulk with minimal correction. That meant the balance, fit intent, and minute details were all nailed down before even one piece of physical cloth was cut. Never in my history of fashion have I heard of this happening. This eliminated an estimated 2-3 sample rounds per silhouette, and 3x that number as factories always make one "keep" sample, one "internal development sample" and one "Brand sample". Imagine the resulting savings in overhead, water consumption and overall resources. My desire is to replicate this success with more Brands.
